Biographical history
The Sherbrooke Ploughmen's Association was founded in 1879. Robert N. Tylee had settled in 1878 on a farm in Lennoxville (now the site of a federal agricultural research station). He set up the association so tenant farmers could learn to use modern scientific methods. In 1912, the Belvidere Ploughmen's Association amalgamated with the Sherbrooke group. The merged association was directed by a board of directors, an executive committee, and committees including the Banquet Committee, the Land Committee, and the Prize Committee. Each year, the Association organized a plowing match followed by a banquet and the prize giving.
