Around 1856, the Roxton French Methodist Mission was organized by Reverend Thomas Charbonnel. It then embraced within its bounds Acton, Bolton, Stukely, Magog, and Stanstead. The mission, which may have been referred to as the Bethel Mission, was apparently discontinued at the beginning of the 20th century. Roxton French Mission was part of the Montreal Conference of the Methodist Church of Canada.
