    • Attributions and conjectures: Kathleen Atto (1897-1986) received her B.A. from Bishop's in 1917 and went on to study at Massachusetts General hospital in Boston. She furthered her career in this field with an M.A. in Nursing Administration from Columbia University, eventually becoming Director of Nurses and the School of Nursing at McLean Hospital in Waverly, Massachusetts. She joined the U.S. Army Nurse Corps where she rose in rank and had a long and prestigious career. She was an enthusiastic supporter of Bishop's and regularly attended convocation and alumni events. Atto was awarded a D.C.L. by Bishop's University in 1960, the first woman graduate to be so honoured. A generous bequest form Kathleen Atto to the Alumni Association provided funds for the first computerization of alumni records. She died at the Connaught Home in North Hatley in 1986.
