The fonds contains source material mainly related to Minnie Hallowell Bowen's literary writings, community and political implicatons, and personal life at the turn of the 20th century. Many of her poems relate to local events, to the World Wars, and to Canadian and British politics. The fonds also provides information on the activities of Minnie's family members, including but not limited to: her husband Cecil H. Bowen, her son Lloyd H. Bowen, her daughter Rose Meredyth Bowen, Henry Bowen, Edward Bowen, Eleazar Clark, George Frederick Bowen, John Hallowell, William Bowen, Frank A. Bowen, Frederick Chamberlin Bowen, and Edward Hugh Bowen. The documents show their involvement mainly in the development of railways, in the mining industry, in the Armed Forces and Militia, in politics, in scouting, in church activities, and in social clubs and associations. Some documents are about the Fenian Raids, the Knights of Columbus, and the history of Sherbrooke.

The fonds consists of mainly manuscripts, correspondence, photocopies of press clippings, articles, publications, photographs, diaries, prospectuses, and drawings. The file contains primary source information on the military involvement of Cecil H. Bowen of Sherbrooke, QC from 1878 to 1925. It consists of a list of his military appointments and certificates; a letter of congratulations from J. Archer Brown; and two issues of the war periodical Fragments from France, containing war cartoons. It also consists of one photograph showing a group of six soldiers and officers at Petawawa Camp in August 1914, two photographs of Cecil H. Bowen in the 53rd Sherbrooke Regiment uniform from 1884 and 1885, and two photographs of soldiers and headquarters in Ciego de Avila, Cuba from 1901.

The file contains primary source information on Sara Jane Hall Bowen's efforts from 1924 to 1925 to receive military pension through her sons' service in WWI. It consist of correspondence making the case that Sara Bowen was entitled to Frederick C. Bowen's and Edward H. Bowen's military pension given that they died prematurely from gas poisoning they sustained during the war. It also includes biographical notes on her sons and a newspaper clipping.

The file contains primary source information on the military life of Edward Hugh "Ned" Bowen from 1914 to 1923. It consists primarily of letters written or sent to Edward Hugh Bowen when he was stationed in England with the Canadian Expeditionary Force during World War I, as well as a photograph, hand-written notes on his doctor, and a newspaper obituary notice. The letters were sent by Edward Hugh Bowen to his mother, and others were sent to him by one of his aunts living in East Croydon, England, and by a McTavish from Colborne, Ontario, Davie Mills and Beatrice Thomas. They include information on Ned's military experience, his sickness and family.

The file contains primary source information on the military career of Frederick "Lin" Chamberlin Bowen from the 1890s to 1923. It consists of letters written by Frederick Chamberlin Bowen to his mother and uncle when he was in the Canadian Expeditionary Force during WWI, as well an eye exam report, handwritten notes on his doctor, and photographs. The letters give information mainly on his regiment's departure for Europe, his experience at the front, his health problems, and different soldiers from the Townships. The file also contains newspaper clippings on Lin's return from the war and an obituary from 1917 and 1923, respectively.

The file contains primary source information on George F. Bowen's life from 1855 to 1927. It consists of a list of George Frederick Bowen's military appointments in 1867 and 1868; George Frederick Bowen's degree from the University of Bishop's College dated 1855 and related letter from 1856; and a deed of sale and three maps regarding G.F. Bowen's land in the Township of South Ham, Wolfe County. It also includes photocopies of a theatre programme for a performance at "Poor Pillicoddy" and "Irish Tiger" in 1857 and newspaper clippings consisting of a tribute to George Frederick Bowen by George E. Brown in 1898 and an article on the colours of the 53rd Sherbrooke Regiment from 1927, photographs, as well as biographical notes on G.F. Bowen's life. Among the photographs are two featuring Eliza (Jessie) Wyatt and one featuring members of the St. Francis District court from the 1850s, featuring G.F. Bowen as well as Eleazar Clark and John Hallowell.

The file contains primary source information on the professional life of Eleazar Clark from 1801 to 1887. It consists of a deposition by S.P. Jones regarding a potential raid to be funded by the confederate government, a report, and correspondence concerning the Fenian Raids from 1865 to 1868. The letters are addressed to Eleazar Clark, Esquire, in Sherbrooke, and are from the British Consulate in Portland, Maine, the British Delegation in Washington, DC, and John Sewall Sanborn. The file also includes certificates appointing Clark as the Justice of the Peace, as a member of the Freemasons Victoria Lodge, and as an Inspector of Weights and Measures; an act regarding extradition of criminals from the United States from 1848; a reward notice from 1849; a certificate of discharge; an indictment of Lester and Jeremiah Page for burglary and larceny; general business correspondence; and a recommendation letter. It also includes a land deed from Josiah Underhill to Eleazar Clark Sr. from New Hampshire, dated 1801; a wax seal from the office of the Secretary of State of Canada; and three photographs of Eleazar Clark from about 1880.

The file contains primary source information on Henry Bowen in 1818. It consists of a long letter sent in 1818 by Lieutenant-Colonel Henry Bowen to his mother. The letter recounts a military campaign in the Indies in which Bowen participated in December 1817.
