The collection contains source material on the history of the Eastern Townships and more specifically, of the city of Sherbrooke in the 20th century. Holdings relate to such varied topics as the daily La Tribune, Sherbrooke's centenary, land granting in the 18th and 19th centuries, the teaching of the arts and the Eucharistic Conference of 1959. The collection consists mainly of press clippings, photographs, postcards, registers, and contracts. Most of the documents on land grants in the Eastern Townships are copies of documents held by the National Archives of Canada. The content of the press clipping files are also copies of articles from local newspapers. The collection is comprised of the following series: Press Clipping Files (1937-[198-?]), Images, Photographs and Postcards (1885-[1959?]), Registers of the Council of Arts and Manufacturers of the Province of Quebec (1903-1953), Land Grants in the Eastern Townships (1863-1985), and Miscellaneous Documents ([1883?]-1984). The series 'Land Grants in the Eastern Townships' contains an original of Putnam and Gray's 1863 Map of the District of St. Francis Canada East, cut up in pieces.

The fonds contains source material mainly on railway development and settlement in Clinton, Hampden, Ditton, and Marston townships in Compton County and around Lake Megantic from 1873 to 1888 and on the role of the Glasgow Canadian Land and Trust Company, managed at the time by Aeneas McMaster. The fonds consists of letters sent to McMaster from 1873 to 1888 by businessmen and shopkeepers, municipal councillors or mayors, employees of the Glasgow Canadian Land and Trust Company, men in search of work, and settlers and includes a proposal for building a mill; letters signed by McMaster; and a few other documents. The fonds contains source material on Jeremiah Wilbur's involvement with certain mining companies operating in the region of the Township of Ascot from 1865 to 1873 and on the decline of mining in the region. The documents are also a source of information on the activities of the Association on Mining Lands in Canada and the Victoria Mining Company of Sherbrooke Canada East. The minutes and correspondence of these two organizations reveal the tactics employed by managers and owners residing in the United States in managing operations in Canada. Also to be found is information on mining procedures of the period and the geographical distribution of the different stages of mineral production. It consists of two letters from James McConnell addressed to Frank Grundy shortly before McConnell's death ([1916?], 1917), a letter from Edmund I.C. Genet to Frank Grundy recounting the events preceding McConnell's death (1917), a transcription of an excerpt of this final publication under the title "La mort de Mac Connell (sic)" ([1917?]), two newspaper clippings in memory of James McConnell (1929, [193-?]), a postcard with an illustration of "la tombe d'un Aviateur Américain (Sergent Pilote) Sam Mac Connelle (sic)" [...] ([193-?]), and a photograph of James McConnell ([1916?]).

The fonds contains source material principally on the preparation and carrying out of activities organized by the Sherbrooke Division and its companies from the beginning of the Guiding movement to the 1990s. The materials relating to the first half of this period consist mainly of photographs, while those relating to the second half are mainly textual records (minutes, annual reports, financial reports, membership lists, and so on.) of the management and financing of the organizations, the training of participants, and social and recreational activities. Holdings also include documents on the activities of the local associations and companies, particularly those of Lennoxville, until the districts were created. Further, the series entitled 'History' is more closely related to the Lennoxville companies and their Local Association than to the Sherbrooke Division. The fonds contains source material on the activities of the Stanstead and Sherbrooke Fire Insurance Company from 1835 to 1935. It consists of three registers and two booklets.
