Compton County

The series consists of material on the people and places from Compton County. It contains the following sub-series: Landscapes/Streetscapes [1916]-[194-?], Buildings [184-?]-[2005], Families [18--]-[1961], Economy, Industry, and Professions [18--]-[1910], Transportation [187-?]-[1926], Military [191-?]-[1918], Education [189-]-[1951], Recreation [189-?]-[1937], Religion [187-?]-[196-?], and Medicine [1917-1938]. The series includes 147 photographs, 37 sketches, 5 textual records, 15 postcards, and 2 paintings

Family photographs

The series consists of eight photographs of members of the Austin family, including: Jane Austin, John K. Austin, Mr. and Mrs. Austin at their 50th wedding anniversary, Phoebe Austin (w/o Oliver Jones) and William Harvey and Anna Austin.


Series demonstrates aspects of the operations, municipal relations, and properties of the Belding-Corticelli factories in Coaticook from 1945 to 1984. It consists primarily of correspondence. The series if composed of the following files: Hydroelectric power plant, Alarm system and fire protection, municipal relations, Child Street plant retaining wall, Municipal arena, and Immoveable property.


Series illustrates the employees and methods of production of Belding-Corticelli from 1938 to 2001. It consists of two photographs of employees on the occasion of Belding-Corticelli's diamond jubilee in 1938, a photograph of the Child Street plant, and numerous photographs of employees at work in the factory from 1983 to 2001. Among those pictured in the photographs are: Thérèse Breault, Guy Dupont, Jacques Bouchet, and Émile Viens.

Series consists of scrapbooks on Coaticook history and activities of the Oeuvre des Terrains de Jeux (O.T.J.) from 1953 to 1982. It consists of a scrapbook compiled by Dora Ackhurst of newspaper articles on Coaticook history and genealogy from 1953 to 1982 and a scrapbook of newspaper clippings and photographs on the O.T.J. in Coaticook from 1982.


Series presents largely the music interests of Jeanette Tanguay from the 1910s to 1989. It consists of manscript song lyrics, music books, and printed lyrics, and musical events. Of particular interest are the lyrics composed by Florina Drew titled "How Dixville home came to be", music books from the Club d'âge d'or l'espoir de St-Jean, a photograph a choir directed by Mrs. Valentine, and the lryics for a song composed for Coaticook's 125th celebration. History of the Tanguay family

Series presents information on the life of various members of the Tanguay family in Coaticook from 1928 to the 1980s. It consists of a typewritten history of Calixte and Cyprien Tanguay, a confirmation certificate for Cyprien Tanguay, certificates and a photograph relating to the St. John Ambulance for Delvina and Jeanette Tanguay, two photographs of a parade in Coaticook, and 16 photographs of Jeanette Tanguay and/or Albert Carbonneau.

Clara Girouard Labbé

Series presents informaton on the volunteer life of Clara Girouard Labbé from 1992 to 1998. It consists of newspaper clippings, an award presentation speech, a letter, business cards, and a copy of BénévolAction containing an article on Mrs. Labbé.

Wilbrod Labbé

Series presents information on the life of Wilbrod Labbé from 1991 to 2001. It consists of auction announcements, and two anniversary souvenirs for Mr. Labbé and his wife, Clara.

Coaticook photographs

Series contains photographs of the Cooperative de l'Estrie buildings and the Salle Maurice in Coaticook in 2007. Photographs may have been taken by Laurette Labbé Dupont.

Hydroelectrical dam

Series illustrates the building of the hydroelectrical power dam in Coaticook from 1926 to 1927. It consists of photographs and postcards showing the process of the construction of the hydro power dam (built by Nelson River Construction Company) and turbines, as well as the old Belding and Hopkins' dams.

Series presents events and members of the community in Coaticook from around 1900 to 1950. It consist of portrait photographs identified and unidentified individuals (such as Antonio Daigle, Louis Devost, and Albert Normandin), as well as the members of City Council in 1950, a St-Jean-Baptiste Day parade in 1934, and a hockey team (possibly from Collège du Sacré-Coeur).
