Charles Stewart fonds

The fonds contains source material on the activities of Charles Stewart from 1815 to 1829, a time span that covers his work in England and Charleston (Hatley, Quebec), and for the SPG and part of his tenure as Bishop of the Diocese of Quebec. It consists of transcripts made by the Reverend James Reid, pastor of Trinity Church in Frelighsburg, in 1850 of ninety-one letters (ninety of which were written between 1815 and 1829) from Stewart to Reid. The transcripts bear comments made by the transcriber.

The fonds contains information on the colonization of the Eastern Townships in the 19th century and source material on Mgr. Gravel's work as a historian. It consists of an album of clippings of his writings; a manuscript; two lectures given before the Eastern Townships Historical Society by Leonard A. Auger and Adolphe Fournier, respectively, and annotated by Mgr. Gravel; and a text written by Mgr. Maurice O'Bready on the Hale family. The fonds is comprised of the following series: Press Clippings (1958), Historical Writings ([195-?]) and Eastern Townships Historical Society (1960).

The file consists of five theatre programmes and two advertisements: MM. P. Paul-Marcel, 2-4 September 1912, at His Majesty's Theatre, Sherbrooke; posters for "Too Much Married", by the West Brome Dramatic Club; "Not Guilty" and "Silent Woman !", Town Hall, Lennoxville, by the Boston Comedy Company; a programme for "Quality Street" presented by the Sherbrooke High School in 1943; a programme for "Captain Applejack" presented by the Sherbrooke High School; a programme for "Merrie England" presented by the Sher-Lenn Operatic & Choral Society; a programme for "The Pirates of Penzance" presented by the Sher-Lenn Choir in 1952; and the summer 2005 programme for Townships Stage, performed at The Piggery Theatre.
