The fonds contains primary source information on the work, property and education of Manda T. Cushing family, as well as on other early residents in the Stanstead and Barnston areas from 1820 to 1885. It consists of correspondence, land deeds, promissory notes, insurance papers and accounts. The fonds is comprised of the following series: Manda Thurber Cushing (1820-1885), Charles Jackson Cushing (1873-1884, 1906) and Miscellaneous (1806-1877).

The file contains primary source information about various members of the Cushing family from 1847 to 1885, 1920. It consists of a document by George Shaw Cushing giving Manda T. Cushing power of attorney, correspondence regarding an account with A. Gilbert, a newspaper subscription, a letter from E.A. Cushing to his sister, a photograph of George Cushing, a recommendation letter by Charles C. Colby for Edward Abbott Cushing to A.B. Foster, an invitation to a public debate by McGill's University Literary Society to Miss Cushing, and a document by a number of subscribers - including M.W. Cushing - committing to contribute to the salary of Joseph Chandler, minister of the Barnston Baptist Church.

Charles Jackson Cushing

The series contains primary source information on romantic relationships, agriculture, roads and education from 1873 and 1926. It consists of a certificate appointing Cushing as the Lodge Deputy for the Faithful Lodge of the Independent Order of Good Templars, correspondence addressed to Charles J. Cushing from a newlywed J.F. Robinson in Floyd, Iowa; and from H. Hubbard, D.C. Delana, Maud Lamb, Isabella Grant, Thomas A. Armstrong, and I. Fitzgerald regarding the hiring of a teacher at Barnston Academy (the candidates were Helen A. Rankin, Mary E. Armitage, I. Fitzgerald, Maud Lamb, Mrs. A. Armstrong, Isabella Grant, . It also consists of statement by Charles J. Cushing regarding a dispute with Leslie Washburn regarding municipal roads from 1906, a property tax statement, and receipts (largely Coaticook businesses).
