Biographical history
George Goodwin/Goodin was born in 1854 to John and Maria Goodwin, farmers in the Township of Bury. He married Eliza Mayhew on 27 June 1889 and they had at least four children together: Everard (1890-1973), Gladys (1894-1895), Arthur (1894-1895), and Maurice (1897-1974). The family spent some time in Manitoba in the mid-1890s, as Gladys and Arthur died at Carmen, Manitoba. George passed away the 29 February 1940 and is buried in the Bown Cemetery.
Maurice married Hildred Armstrong and together they had at least one child: Edith, born 13 April 1934. Maurice died in 1974 and is buried in the Bown Cemetery.

Scope and content
The fonds contains primary source information on the education and social activities of the Goodin family in Canterbury and Bury from the 1870s to 1950. It consists of largely of correspondence, school reports, exams, composition books and a photograph. Among the correspondence are two wedding invitations: one for the marriage of Augusta Bennett and Samuel Lake, and another for Lizzie Clark. The identified authors of the correspondence are: John and Lucy Goodwin - George's brother and sister-in-law, Allen Snelling, Robert Clark, and Janet Rowe. The fonds is comprised of the following files: George Goodin Corrsepondence (1883-1890), Edith Goodin Correspondence (1948-1950) and Education ([187-?]-1949).
