Custodial history
The volume was annotated and indexed by Walter Beattie, father of Steuart Beattie, in 1939. The purpose of the annotations was to note information gathered in the following century and a quarter. In partnership with Harry Shufelt, Walter began writing a new history of the border townships but that project ended with his death in 1946. Prior to donation to the ETRC, the annotated Hubbard volume had been in the Beattie family's keeping for 80 years.
Scope and content
The file contains a thoroughly annotated version of B.F. Hubbard's "Forests and Clearings," by Walter F. Beattie with additional family information and updated histories pertaining the Stanstead County area. The volume also includes original photographs of: Albert L. Knight, P.B. Wilcox, Abel Johnson, Wilder Pierce, Benjamin Pomeroy
