        History

Farmer and businessman Hiram Davis was born in Lower Canada in 1809 or 1810. He married Sally Ann Cobb; they had six children. Sally Ann would die sometime during 1854. He married Betsey Clark Mansur on the 23 November 1858. He lived for many years in the Township of Barnston and retired to the Township of Hatley in 1871, where he died on 31 October 1893. Though Davis taught in 1837 and became the owner of the Barnston Common School House in 1871, his primary activities related to the land he owned. In addition to farming, he was a businessman who involved himself in his community: he consented to loans and mortgages, acquired lands to rent, and reinvested his money. During the 1860s, he held the office of Mayor in Barnston.
