Early residents of Shefford County, Quebec, the Cutler family came from the United States and was related to the descendents of Captain John Savage, who was the first settler of Shefford County in 1790s. Roswell Culter, son of Anthony Culter Sr. and Jemima McCorkey (or McConkey), probably owned a general store in Shefford, selling items such as books, fabrics, and feed. Roswell Culter (1794-1845) married Lydia Wood (1798-1866) in Dunham, Quebec in 1821. They had 9 children named Orinda, Parthenia, Paulina, Roswell Wright, William Orrain, Calvan Prosper, Selby Lorenzo, Henry Hiram, and Richard Henry. Roswell and Lydia Culter are buried in St. John's Anglican Cemetery in Bromont, Quebec. Roswell Wright Culter (1828-1897), Roswell and Lydia's eldest son, married Marietta Craig (1836-1912) in Shefford, Quebec in 1859. They also had 9 children; Roswell, Julia Florella, Alice, William Orrin, and Jennie survived to adulthood while Charlotte, Hiram, Albert Edward, and Susan died in childhood. Roswell Wright and Marietta Culter are buried in the Congregationalist Church section of the Cowie Street Cemetery in Granby, Quebec.
