        History

The Cowansville Area Pastoral Charge, originally called the Cowansville Pastoral Charge, was established in 1965 after the dissolution of the Cowansville-Dunham Pastoral Charge. Initially, the Pastoral Charge consisted of Emmanuel United Church (Cowansville) and East Farnham United Church. However, largely as a result of ministerial vacancies, Grace United Church (Farnham) and Brigham United Church joined them in 1969 and in 1971 the name of the Pastoral Charge was changed to the Cowansville Area Pastoral Charge. During its existence, the Cowansville Area Pastoral Charge has supported and participated in a large number of activities to serve the church community as well as the wider Cowansville area community. Some of these have include Christian groups for men, women, youth, and young children, annual events such as the Flower Show, retreats, summer programs, and sponsoring foster children. Additionally, the Cowansville Area Pastoral Charge was closely linked to other pastoral charges, primarily the Knowlton and the Sutton-Dunham Pastoral Charges, through the Larger Parish Council, and participated in shared activites such as puplit exchanges between ministers. Although some of the church buildings have been sold, the Cowansville Area Pastoral Charge continues to represent the communities of Cowansville, East Farnham, Farnham, and Brigham.

The Cowansville Area Pastoral Charge is under the jurisdiction of the Quebec and Sherbrooke Presbytery of the Montreal and Ottawa Conference of the United Church of Canada. The Pastoral Charge is governed by the Official Board in co-operation with organizations and committees.
