    Biographical history

    Charles Revell Eardley-Wilmot was born 24 January 1880 at Windrush, Gloucestershire, England, to parents Earnest Augustus Eardley-Wilmot (Prebendary of Saint Judes, South Kensington) and Emily Dora Holland. He was ordained as a Priest in 1904, came to Quebec in 1908, and to Sherbrooke in 1909. Throughout his distinguished clerical career he served in Stanstead, Quebec City, Shigawake, Hatley, Compton, Coaticook, and Levis, to name a few, and filled a variety of clerical positions, including Assistant Chaplain, Chaplain, Assistant to Canon, Canon, Incumbent, Curate, Rector, Rural Dean, Assistant Clerical Secretary, Clerical Secretary, Editor of the Quebec Diocesan Gazette, and Vice President of the Diocesan Board of Religious Education. On 21 April 1914, he married Rose Meredyth Bowen, and they had four children: Barbara Rose (1915-2002), Cecilia Torlesse (1917-1999), Robert Lloyd (1921-2011), and Sylvia Revell (b. 1926). He retired in 1942, and died 14 October 1963 at the Wales Home in Richmond, QC.

    Scope and content

    The file contains primary source information on the life of Reverend Charles Revell Eardley-Wilmot from about 1895 to 1986. It consists mainly of correspondence exchanged between the Reverend and other clerical officials from both within Quebec and abroad, as well as some letters from him addressed to his wife Rose and daughter Barbara. The file also consists of some texts written by the Reverend, including one published by The Canadian Journal of Religious Thought in 1930 and one published by The Canadian Churchman in 1932. It also consists of one photograph of him, personal belongings such as his baptismal records, passport, and pocket diaries, as well as some biographical research and texts compiled by his daughter Barbara, obituaries, and a text written by his granddaughter Susan recalling her childhood memories of him. Also included in the file is a photocopy of the author's biography from the book "Benjamin Cronyn: First Bishop of Huron" written by Reverend A. H. Crowfoot, with whom Charles Revell Eardley-Wilmot corresponded.
