History

Chalmers United Church, initially of Presbyterian denomination, was organized in Gould in 1845. In 1925, when the United Church of Canada was founded, amalgamating the Methodist, Presbyterian, and Congregational Churches, Chalmers Presbyterian Church decided to join the Union. Some dissident members, who decided to remain Presbyterian, established a new church and named it Emanuel Presbyterian Church, which would then amalgamated with Chalmers United Church in 1949. Since then, the church has been either called Chalmers Emanuel United Church or Chalmers United Church. In the 1990s, services were provided once or twice a year. Chalmers United Church is under the jurisdiction of the Quebec and Sherbrooke Presbytery of the Montreal and Ottawa Conference of the United Church of Canada.
