    Administrative history

The first presbyterian services of Leeds township began in the 1830s in Kinnear's Mills. The first church was opened in March 1842. In 1854, Leeds circuit was formed which included three preaching points: Leeds Village, Kinnear's Mills and Lemesurier. In 1874, the second church was built in Kinnear's Mills and named Candlish. In 1882, Leeds Village separated from the circuit.

In 1911, Candlish Presbyterian Church (Kinnear's Mills), Leeds Presbyterian Church (Leeds Village) and Reid's Presbyterian Church (Lemesurier) joined again to share the services of one minister keeping three preaching points. In 1925, when the United Church of Canada was founded, amalgamating the Congregational, Methodist, and Presbyterian Churches, Candlish decided to join the Union. Presently, Candlish United Church, St. Andrew's United Church (Inverness) and Thetford Mines United Church are part of the K.I.T. Pastoral Charge.
