History
Bethany Presbyterian Church was formed in 1917 in Milan as a result of a split within the St. Luke's Presbyterian Church congregation in Hampden. The two churches then formed one congregation, but each had its own board of managers until the closure of St. Luke's Presbyterian Church in 1944. In 1925, when the United Church of Canada was formed, Bethany Presbyterian Church did not join and remained Presbyterian. In 1975, Bethany Presbyterian Church and St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Lake Megantic were merged with St. Paul's Presbyterian Church in Scotstown, forming one congregation of three separate preaching stations with a common communion roll and session, and separate boards of managers. In 1980, the two churches were totally amalgamated with St. Paul's Presbyterian Church in Scotstown. The building, of brick exterior, was sold and torn down in 1983.
Bethany Presbyterian Church was under the jurisdiction of the Presbytery of Quebec of the Synod of Quebec and Eastern Ontario of the Presbyterian Church in Canada. The Church was governed by the congregation and the Church courts (board of managers and session) in co-operation with committees, organizations and societies within the Church, such as the Carry-on Society and the Sunbeam Mission Band.
